Route B — Bombarral · Stop 4 of 7
The republican married to a Lafetá Aranha
The street is named after José Maria Duarte, landowner, parish administrator (regedor) of Bombarral (1872–1876) and the most important Bombarral republican of the early days, who took part in a republican congress.
He was married to Casimira Maximiana Lafetá Aranha (b. 1815), daughter of the entail holder Feliciano José and of Francisca de Paula de Lafetat Aranha. Bombarral cemetery was inaugurated on 15 January 1899 with Casimira’s burial; the second burial was that of José Maria Duarte himself, on 21 October 1899.
On the way to the Theatre: Rua Dr. Henrique Coimbra → Rua Dr. José Sabino Pereira → Travessa dos Bacelos → Rua José Barardo.
